It took us 5 hours of driving to reach Thekedey. We passed by villages, towns, mosques, churches and temples but one thing surprised me, a very big and nice villa with a sign wrote on it AL-FALAH (الفلاح) which is a known kuwaiti family !! We reached our destination med day. It was cloudy with light showers.
Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary located in Thekedey 900-1800 m above sea level. At the heart of the sanctuary there is a picturesque lake with boat trips operating each hour. It has thirty five species which includes the Asian elephant, Indian bison, sambar deer, Indian wild dog, Barking deer, Smooth-coated otter and tigers but rarely to be seen. I liked the boat trip specially it was showering. I saw elephants, Bisons and deers but from far away, as we were getting close to them they ran away. Periyar wildlife sanctuary experience was not bad.
Beside the sanctuary tour we had a nice experience with the elephant back riding . You can’t go to India and you don’t do elephant back riding. On the cultural side, we attended Kathakali play ,300 years old classical dance play. it was kinda weird because it’s all about gestures and eye signs without talking beside the instrument was very noisy. We also attended Kalaripayattu, martial art form of Kerala is regarded as the oldest and most scientific of its kind in the world, that was interesting. By the end of the kalaripayattu show it was already dark and we needed to look for a hotel to stay in for that night. Next morning, we moved on heading to one of the most beautiful places i have ever seen. To be continued ….
