We spent our last day in New Delhi relaxing, shopping and walking around mainly in Connaught Place, the city centre. Our next destination was Jammu and Kashmir State. We were planning to start with Jammu since it’s closer to New Delhi and on the way to Srinagar which is the capital of beautiful Kashmir. We Drove around 3000 km from Cochin to Hyderabad and We took a 27 hours train from Hyderabad to New Delhi. So we thought we can try an overnight bus to Jammu.
We had enjoyed the magnificent scenieries while driving and had slept for almost 27 hours but this over night bus idea wasn’t a good idea although the bus was in a very good condition. An A/C that can not be shut off, be lowered or directed away made me sick Knowing that we have a marathon the day after. Oh yeah, the day after.
We only did one thing in Jammu which is visiting Vaishno Devi Temple in Katra.
We reached Katra Village at 8 am. After we checked in, we had a light breakfast and start THE MARATHON. 14 km to reach the Vaishno Devi Temple and i was half sick and very tired already but for sure did not want to waste a day. I did not do the Haj but i did the Hindu Haj. You have all kind of transportation to go up, Helicopter, Horses, Donkeys, walking, on sticks or even you can rent some people to carry you. Since am an athlet i guess, i did it walking. Some people take a day. Some take more, old determined people take up to a week to reach the temple. I aswear i saw old people crawling to reach the temple. For sure there were restaurants, shops, bathrooms and hostels.
It was fun at the begining. Shops all the way up. Roads were in a good condition. Sometimes we take the stairs as short cut but it’s more tiring so same thing. But for me i just wanted to finish. By reaching KM number 6 i was really tired and start nagging. Sometimes i say why am doing this and sometimes why should i go to the end and the most convencing one was let me do my HAJ then i will come here and do yours, my friend is Hindu. Weather was amazing, Sunny with very light showers and drizzles sometimes. Thank GOD i did it and reached the top of the temple. I was not happy about the end at all. The holly temple was only a small narrow tunnel with 3 or 4 golden holy pieces. Anyway am up there now.
We took a rest for an hour then we started the journey back to Katra. The way up took 5 hours and 3 hours to come down. Walking, jogging and stepping down even flying down, i just wanted to have a decent warm dinner and REACH MY BED. That what happened. Amazing experience with an amazing company. I have a gold fish memory but am surprised by the info i still remember about this journy. Am sure i missed some but my friend will remind me when he reads this post, so no worries. Unfortunately we did not go arround Jammu. The next day we headed to WooW.
